Valley Pan Gasket; Head Gaskets
#201
HCW,
for the past 6-7 days I left in the morning and I came back home late in the evening, so I didn't have time to do it. I do am anxious to see if the code came back, and also to have time to pull the carpeting out and check the terminals on both the TCM and ECM.
In all the honesty, sometimes I feel like the car only shifts twice - first time at about 2400 RPMs and about 20 MPH, and then second time at about 30MPH and about 1800 RPMs.
To me, 30 MPH (what is, about 48-50 KM/h?) would be pretty low for shifting into the highest gear (the fourth in this case), but in turn, if the car was only running into the third gear probably I would not get 24 mpg average.
For some reason I really cannot detect a third shift, no matter how soft or how hard I take off. It is an anomaly that I really need to look into it, but I do not have the time until November to do so. Beside this, I have some other things to take care of (replacing again one valve cover gasket, changing the suspension, and maybe dismantling again the engine).
Anyway, I'll definitely report back as soon as I have time to scan the darn thing as it really puzzles me.
P.S. Yeah, is an AFC engine.

If the automatic transmission is funtioning properly, you may not even feel the shifting. However, the tachometer will show that the rpm changes. If your car were not to shift in to a higher gear, then your rpm would be too high and you fuel consumption would suffer.
