Default Vibration at 65-80

Hello All, I'm having pretty significant vibration problems in my car at 65-80 mph,I put the car on jacks and tried to wiggle the tires to check for play but they are all right, does this mean the tie rods and the control arms are fine? Also I recently rotated my tires and noticed the both front ones were worn more along the sides, I though it had to do with the previous owner driving the car with underinflated tires, but could it be something else? I'm trying to troubleshoot one thing at the time and for what I read so far it's not the control arms or the tie rods, should I buy 2 new tires to swap with the ones that are worn around the sides?. Also the steering wheel is slightly slanted to the left, so in order to go straight the steering wheel is turned like 5 degrees to the left. Did any of you have this issue? What would you start checking? Thank you very much for your help.

Alignment and wheel balance when you get new tires.

If something is loose they should find it and let you know.

hey bro. I have the same problem. mine shakes at around 50-70mph. iIts been doing this since I bought it which was this december. I finally got it checked out at the Audi dealership for an ESTIMATE. They said it s my outer tie rod ends . $800 for that plus $200 for an alinment. so im definatly not paying for that. I was actually going to order the new tie rod ends today and do it myself but i think ill hesitate and see what people say on this post. Thats all i can tell you. I have been told on here that this is the typical symptoms of tie rod ends going out .

I would address simple things first.

1. Get your tires and wheels balanced.
2. Get it aligned.

Balancing should cost you about $75 and another $75 for the alignment. If the shop knows what they are doing, then they should tell you if the tie rods are bad while aligning the wheels.

If it turns out to be the tie rod ends, 95% of the time, it is the outer ends. Parts cost about $100 for both sides. You just need anti seize compound and can do the work yourself in about 30 minutes.

Fernandus, how many miles do you have on the car? I was told they go out usually around 70-90k. Im going to be hitting 85,000k in a few miles myself.

Hxgaser, You can get outer tie rod ends for way less than $100 each.

www.vastperformance.com has them

and so does www.blauparts.com

I think he said $100 for both sides not $100 each.... LOL

Don't get ahead of yourself. Do one step at a time.

BALANCE AND ALIGN FIRST!

Hi. Start with the simple things first as HXGASER suggestedso you don't p*ss away money. I had a minor vibration about a year ago in my car and wasn't sure what was causing it. I took it to a wheel and tire shop that I trust and have been doing business with for years. It started first with an electronic 4 wheel alignment, and then a four wheel high speedbalance. During this process, the technician found and pointed out to me that I had one wheel which had come off the front of my car that was slight bent. He then mouned my full sized spare in its place....and hooray!! No more vibration. It cost me about $100 to find the source and another $100 to have the bent wheel straightened. I'm guessing the wheel was bent when the car was borrowed by a family member about a week before. Just glad my car is true again and I didn't have to spend a fortune on needless repairs and trouble shooting. Good Luck with yours.
