Pre- and post- facelift A6s have a few differences, the most noteable being the grille. However, it also includes the headlights (different shape) the front bumpers, the lower grille, foglights, and the front fenders because of the headlights).
Pre-facelift is what was on the A6 2.8 (1998-2001) and the 2.7T (2000-2001), which has this face on it...
Post facelift is what is found on the 2002 and later 3.0 and 2.7T through 2004, as well as what is found on all the years for the 4.2 (2000-2004).

So stupid question,
If someone wanted to, they could change the front end from PRE to POST face lift???
But you need to change the whole front end, it would bolt right up?
