When I lock the car, is it supposed to beep?
Whenever I lock my 2000, I hear it lock, and then hear a very FAINT honk. Is it supposed to make a noise of somekind? Sounds like whatever it is that does it went bad. Any ideas?

RE: When I lock the car, is it supposed to beep?
I have the same problem with my '03 A6. I can barely hear it from 5 feet away. I find itamusing thatAudi decided to put a $5 (it sounds cheap)central locking alarm on a car with relatively sophisticated electronics. Does anybody know a work around to this? Is itpossible to install a better/louder beeper?

It's a simple horn device that sounds like a sick horn. Hold the red panic button to hear it in all its glory!! I've been told it can be replaced by another horn/chirp device like the chirp found on a Lexus or the subarus. (very high pitched, and sound expensive.) Also the alarm horns from the VW touareg are another sweet option. All you have to do is determine your signal type to the alarm horn module ( ie. constant voltage, pulse width modulated, or pulsed voltage signal.) then get a new horn that will work with the same signal.
P.S. I am going to do this on my Audi, but so far the alarm horn modules I have searched for are pretty expensive, so I've still not done it yet.
