Hello all,

Sorry for my first post being a question, but my A8 has been sitting at the shop for about a week now and the mechanic still can't figure out why there is a knocking sound

Basically, I took a video of the sound at the shop, please click on the link below to hear it, and let me know what you guys think it is.

Contrary to a lot of other folks that have similar problems, mine doesn't go away after the engine warms up.

I would really appreciate any input guys, thanks!

Sounds like chain guides/tensioners.

How many miles/kms on vehicle ?

 

It has about 100k km's which I think is between 50-60 miles? also, it appears to come from the bank located on the passenger side. you can see my mechanic circling the area where the sound is coming from

 

possibly a collapsed lifter.

pull the valve cover and see what going on in there.
check the lifters on the front two cylinders, (1&2) and the tensioner as well.

the noise they make when you start after a long sit is the lifters and the tensioner.

as they fill back up they quiet down, your's aint fillin.

 

and see what's going on in there. ln there
should give you some clue as to what's going
on with all the noise and commotion. at
least do that. lf you see nothing in there
then things really start to getting interesting
and pricey. You should find something
just by lifting the cover on that side. Let
