Yeah, my father owns a 2001 S8. Not worth it to me. So many other cooler cars to own. It's nice and all, but not with 116k on it. His has 98k on it. Still a sharp car, but it looks dated and maintenance is always an issue.

 

Yeah. Maintenance suxxors on these things. Between the needless German complexity, the cost of parts, and labor costs that are the equal of liquid platinum...

 

He had to replace the timing belt recently, I was shocked at the bill for that. And some boot or something went in the transmission, which was like a 4k bill. I nearly fell over when he told me that.

 

I try to keep at least 8-10 ounces of Liquid Plutonium around, just for emergency repairs!

 

Because it's WORTH IT!!!

I always tell everyone on this board, if you are a budget minded type and don't know how to wrench on german cars, the A8/S8 is not the car for you.
