I will use this thread to post minor mods that I am planning to do to my 2004 A8L.

1. Ash tray to usable coin tray mod

The first mod addresses one of my main annoyances with my car ... the ash tray. I don't smoke, so I don't need an ash tray. However, I do tend to keep a bunch of change in my car, and the ash tray is a logical storage area for it. Unfortunately the lip on the tray makes it extremely difficult to get coins back out of the tray. On to the fix:

Materials needed:
- Ash tray
- Scissors
- Thin sheet of plastic (I used a clear binder cover)
- Clear tape



Step 1: Remove ash tray from car (it pulls right out)

Step 2: Cut out a small strip of plastic, spanning the distance from the cigarette holder to the right side of the ash tray (~ 4.625" x .75" or 117mm x 20mm)



Step 3: Affix a piece of tape spanning the width of the plastic strip to one side of the strip.



Step 4: Insert the plastic strip into the open ash tray, with about a 2mm (~1/16th") overlap and affix the tape to the ash tray.



Voila!
