Just bought a 1998 A8 4.2 and there is only one key, and the remote doesn't work, so have the hassle of using the key all the time and I'm mega lazy.
Is it worth trying some new batteries, or will it need reprograming anyway? And to compound the problem I don't have a manual!

Most of the time you have to reprogram the keys when you change the batteries. On the plus side that is usually the problem when your remote doesnt work.

 

othyer problem is I believe you need a second key to program the remote
