Do you really need a special tool to remove the gearshift **** in a D2 A8?

 

Put the car in neutral, then pull out on the shift button enough to where you can slip a zip tie in between the button and the shifter, now just pull up as hard as you can.

 

thanx auditech but the problem was that my shift button was stuck i had to have some one remove the piece that pulls the wire that releases the key. i was told i have to replace the whole shift handle but i cant afford that rite now so is it ok to have that piece out for a short period of time?

 

As long as you can drive with it, its fine.
