Exclamation Replacing Fuel Pump ?'s

Can I just replace the pump instead of the whole assembly? And if so, anyone know where to find an affordable one? I have a 1998 A8 4.2 QUATTRO.

Also, I've already checked the relay, the mechanic verified its definitely the fuel pump.

Anyone have any good links to a good DIY video or online tutorial?

Yep, Bob's videos plus:

It's in the UK...lots of folks order from them with no problem at a good price....seemingly not available seperately in the US.

Great video, is that pump my only option? Anyone else out there have any luck with possibly an aftermarket pump that will fit?

Default short answer is no....

a bunch of us have tried but the VDO is the only one that has the extra pick up tube on the bottom.

Thanks. How do you know whether or not you just need to replace the fuel pump or the entire assembly? I am very much a novice when it comes to these cars.

It's rarely needed as I understand...haven't experienced a problem with mine..yet
But seems to always be the electric pump that fails...the other parts, which should be handled with great care when replacing pump alone, as I understand, are not prone to failure.
