Default small water leak

I am interested in buying a 1997 Audi A8, the car is in pristine condition, the owner is asking 2500.00 for it. The only concern is the owner told me that the car has a small water leak were you have to add water every month. He was told by a certified mechanic that it was a intake gasket or head gasket problem. Has anyone had this problem and what would be the cost for repair for those 2 items? Also is 2500.00 a good price for this car?

Thanks........

Default RE: small water leak

If by water you mean coolant you might be OK. If they are running water inplace of their coolant I would strongly recomend not buying the car. I would take it to a mechanic and have them do a pressure test on the coolant system. It could determine where the leak is coming from. If it is a headgasket I would just pass on the car. As for the price it is amazingly low. If the problems turn out to be minor, you might get a great deal. Otherwise you could be in over your head.
