Default 2008 q7 4.2 oil filter question

The factory filter has a little offset stub on the bottom (has a tiny o-ring on it that comes pre-installed on the filter) that i don't see on any aftermarket oil filters. Can someone tell me why this stub is there? Also what is the proper steps on installing the factory one? I clicked it on the cover and screwed the cover on is this correct way?

If the aftermarket filters do not have the stub DONT install them!!!!! Get one from the dealer if you are not sure. Chinese crap from Autozone should not make to your Audi.

You can install it either way. Put the element in and then screw the cap on OR click it into the cap and screw the assy in.

I agree with M5S5, use a genuine Audi filter if possible. The oil filter isn't the place to save a few bucks because it could cost you a lot of bucks later on.

Thanks guys i plan to stay with the dealership items just like i do with all my cars. I actually went home yesterday and took the oil filter back out and looked it over and either putting the filter first into the cap or into the slot is the same but i felt more comfortable attaching to the cap and screwing it in. SO far about 50 miles and it is fine. Plan to continue to check the oil for a few days to make sure all is well. Thanks everyone!!
