Default Please tell me I'm wrong

Dear Audians,

I just got a brand new 2013 Q7 and I'm loving it so far. But there's one thing that's really puzzling me and hindering my total enjoyment of this car. It seems to me that the proximity sensors in the front and back only kick in when you are parking the vehicle; in other words, the sensors are totally inactive until you put the gear in reverse. Please, please, please tell me this is not the case and that there's some sort of setting to keep the sensors on all the time. I don't see why anyone would favor this weird behavior. I mean, the sensors are sitting right there and they are capable of behaving as proximity sensors (as they do on Lexus SUVs and many others), not just parking aid sensors.

Cheers.

Talal

Talal,

I have a 2012 and my sensors activate anytime I am backing up. The range is not great, but both front and back operate as expected.

You may check with your dealer service department. I am not sure if there are settings for sensitivity.

You are not wrong. The Audi only activates in reverse. If you want them to activate while pulling into a garage or something you have to push the button on the dashboard. I agree it's pretty silly, the sensors in my Mercedes turn on automatically when I get below 10mph or so. Much more useful.
