Question 2000 Audi TT 1.8 Problem [ Updated 3-24 ]

Hey everyone, i am having a pretty big problem with my 2000 TT. I've done a few searches too see if this problem has come up already but with no result. So here it is..

I have no lights on in the cluster (ex. Check Engine, Service). (( I did have my local auto parts store and dealership try to check for engine codes with no luck))

Wile i am driving the car seems fine, but if i shut it off to run into a store or something like that. it takes FOREVER to start, then once it does start i get a really nice black cloud of smoke out the back end and it Revs at 3500 RPM for about 45 seconds then BOOM back to normal. If i let the car sit for a few hours it fires right up with no problems. ( i am no mechanic but to me it seems like fuel problem?)

I had a mechanic look at it and he said he was really not sure but said the car may have been "Flashed?" and it is getting too much fuel..

All and any help would be great.

[[ UPDATE: Got a check engine light, P0114 (IAT) Intake Air Temperature Sensor ]]
[Another Update: Cleaned IAT, that did not remove the check engine light or fix the starting problem. So i replaced the IAT, that removed the light.. However, it did not fix the starting problem.. Does anyone have any other ideas?]

If its been flashed it might be in a performance stage setting and a performance shop that does flash service can put the car back into default, Im gonna say its the air/fuel sensor but the code scanner would of found that....?

Updated with a check engine light code.. Could that actually cause my problem?
P0114 (IAT) Intake Air Temperature Sensor
Or should i take it into a performance shop to see if it was flashed?

the iat can cause some screwy issues. Its in the intake manifold just after the throttle body held on by 2 5mm allen heads bolts. Just pull it out and spray it with some maf cleaner. Its probably covered in oil and giving off bad readings.

Yes, and do not spray that without anything else than MAF cleaner either. Brake cleaner is wayyyyy too harsh, and so is electrical contact cleaner.

Pulled the iat and it was pretty dirty.. Bought the cleaner and it looks like new.. we will see if that helps. Thanks everyone.

Take your car to a dealership and pay them their $150 to tell you what the problem is. It will likely be much cheaper than you chasing the issue replacing parts until you get the right one.
