My compressor seems to have gone out as well on my 1998 Audi A6 quattro. Have received 2 estimates, and both are around $1200! Both are quoting the compressor at around $600. I've found this new discount compressor at "discount ac parts." http://www.discountacparts.com/addto...~60-01332.asp# Any downsides to replacing it with that part instead of OEM. Car already has 140,000 miles, so hate to drop that much into it if the discount part has a decent reputation.

 

I have the problem right now, how did you fix it?

 

I tried to go with a non-OEM part, and boy did I regret it. Some of them do not fit well and made a whining noise as well as not improving AC back to original standards. Eventually had to get OEM part put on (after 3 non-OEM). I would recommend having this looked at by an Audi shop or someone who is VERY good with Audi's. Can be very expensive....and cause a lot of perspiration (for many reasons!)

 

The first thing I would check on a TT is to make sure when you turn the A/C on at the control head, both engine fans must turn on or you won't get the preesure down enough in the system for the refrigerant to efficiently remove heat from the evaporator.

 

..not everyone is going to always have the same cause.

You just have to eliminate the possible causes. My last A/C issue was the Hi/Lo switch.
