Default Aftermarket Radio Whine

Changed out my stock radio for an aftermarket one. Sound is a whole lot better except for alot of engine whine through the speakers. Tried using the ground loop isolators from Radio Shack but they did not help. Any ideas?

Check your plug wires, and alternator connection.

First things first : Check your grounds. Always ground your audio equipment directly to a chasis ground. Check with a volt/ohm meter. Almost all noise introduced into a car stereo are either from 1.) bad ground or 2.) bad equipment. If you've bought a top shelf stereo (you're putting it in an Audi, why not?), then I'd go with a bad ground.

If you have an EQ and/or crossover and/or amp, it could be bad RCA interconnects. disconnect the RCA's. Turn stereo on. Still have the noise?...

There is a black wire connected to the back of the factory unit with an eyelet. Cut off the eyelet and tie it in with the ground on the cd player. Good chance that will get rid of it.
