im going to be getting a 2001 225 soon. i have been looking for a new car and this is what i have decided on. i didnt realize it needed 91 anyway. My friend john would have fixed me on that anyway. He has a 20th GTI and its chipped and all that nonsense. i have a lot to learn. So chips really are worth it eh?

I wondered that too after reading that. Maybe you shouldn't be modding your car yourself...hmmm. j/k...so you don't own one yet understandable.

Seriously, start with those things if you are looking to get some more powerquickly for cheap. The 225 is rated at 260bhp and 280-290tq after a flash.

Also keep in mind you are buying a 7-8yr old car. Take care of your maintenance first before you start modding. Hint hint, the timing belt and waterpump come to mind.

The "chip" is the ECU re-flash. Unless you buy an early model TT your new program will be flash loaded onto the ECU via the diagnostic cable port. No removal or soldering of an actual "chip" will occur. You don't have to use 93 octane if it is not available in your location, some chip manufacturers offer a 91 octane tune. You will get better results from a 93 octane tune however. 100 octane race tunes are also available. Are you concerned about paying for 93 octane all the time vs. 91? If so you shouldn't be buying a TT- EVERYTHING for this car is expensive!

the difference between regular and premium gas is usually 20 cents anyway... and therefore every 10 gallons a differnce of 2 bucks, its not all that much

Offset 32-35ish. Use spacers if desired to adjust stance. 225-45 17 tire on 17 inch wheel=225-40 18 tire on 18 inch wheel- same diameter overall, no speedo adjustment needed. I have seen 15 to 20 inch wheels on a TT, 17's or 18's look and perform the best IMHO. 5x100 is correct bolt pattern although adapters exist to run other 5x112 audi or porshe wheels. Stock wheels are ball seat lugs, aftermarket are usually cone seat- don't mix the two.

Eccentric bushings (aka KMAC or ECS) or adjustable control arms are also needed to correct camber when lowering the TT more than 1" unless you want to buy new tires every few months.
