But how hard is it to pop the hood, look at the level in the big coolent ball on the passenger side and add water if needed?

Wasn't sure if it was a sensor.

you have to remember if you dont even know what your looking for, how can you even look? - I would have never in a million years guessed to look at the coolant level. - In my BMW's it said " COOLANT LEVEL LOW " - In the Audi it gives me a temp sign and some waves? - That says sensor issue to me.... but again... I'm not a car wiz...thats why I'm here and love you guys so much.

PFFT! I swear this forum is giving me an inferiority complex.

You're not wrong in thinking the sensor is bad. It can get old and crusty, but seeing as it went away once she was heated up; chances are your sensor is fine.
