Default Cold Weather Starting

My 2004 225 does not like starting in cold.....cranks over a couple times, coughs like it wants to start, then dies. May do this several times then finally catches and runs. Almost feels like it is not getting fuel, but not certain.

Make sure your battery is good and has plenty of CCA. Also make sure your plugs are the correct heat range and also good

I got mine a couple months back from walmart for a decent price. Id have to go look for the reciept since i dont remember the cost. I think when you have it tested they can check amps its putting out. i would do that before i spent the money

I put a charger on it overnight and started it this morning. Popped right off, so I think the batt is shot.

Most batteries are good. Just find one with a good warranty and you should be good. Most have a 2-3 year warranty and then prorate the battery after that.

About 8 below zero today, I don't think I will skimp on a battery. Ordered an Interstate battery and it should be in tomorrow. Walmart price $69. Interstate price $112.

Walmart is an extremely bargain priced (get what you pay for) Exide battery.

Most people I know steer clear of Exide, but if I were in a more temperate climate, I would save the dough and go Walmart. There are only two mfg's of batterys now, Johnson Controls and Exide, I think. Anyone know for sure?

The deep cycle batterys are the best, but extremely expensive. Optimum (sp?) are the best.

My Optima Red Top only lasted two years. I've since gone back to a Diehard International from Sears. Deep Cycle batteries are meant for things like RVs, trolling motors, etc. They don't have the CCA to start a car in subzero weather, a deep cycle is designed to put out a steady Amp rate over a long period of time.
