All DC electrical systems in a car work only off the battery. It is there to store charge, but also as a filter to clean up the noisy signal that comes from the alternator. The alternator is really just a battery charger. It outputs AC and then rectifies it to put DC power in to the battery. If your battery is low it could cause the problem. I would think that the starter would be harder on the battery than the power top motor. Does the car start?
