Dash Noise with A/C On
Posting this to inform others of my problem and solution.
With the Air Conditioning ON there was a whining sound coming from the center of the dash behind the radio within
a few seconds of starting the car. Sounded like the noise you would get through your speakers if your car stereo
didn't have a filter on the power line.
The sound would actually vary with engine speed and most noticeable driving under 40mph or before the ambient
road noise covered it. When slowing down to come to a stop it was very noticeable. As soon as you hit the A/C button
it would stop at any engine rpm so it wasn't the blower motor. The blower motor was quiet at any speed
I had read on one of my forum searches about someone having a similar problem and they found the A/C was overcharged
and the result was a sound emanating from the evaporator in the dash.
The repair shop guys checked the A/C system and found that the pressure was low, I believe they said by around 50.
The evacuated the system then recharged and lubed with new stuff and the noise went completely away.
