Default HID headlight issue

So i have done vast searches on many boards and have not come across an issue quite like mine with my headlights. I have an 02 TT 1.8T with HIDs. Seems like the issue could be either the stick on the column or a relay.

Issue: Turn on headlights with headlight switch all the way. HIDs come on. Fog lights also come on. Push the stick on the column and the fog lights kick off like they are supposed to, but no halogen high beams come on. Pull the stick and use the flash-to-pass function and the high beams come on when stick is pulled.

So, the HIDs work. Light bulbs for high beams work. High beams just wont stay on when stick pushed all the way forward. Anybody able to narrow down in what might be bad? Like i said im thinking its either the switch or a relay. Thoughts!?!?

After talking to a buddy who is a mechanic...it looks like it might be a headlight switch. Ill keep this updated as I find out what is going on. That way others will know.

Well, heres an update for all the people who dont look in this portion of the forum. Replaced my headlight switch with a known working used headlight switch. Still no high beam when i push the lever. The flash to pass still works too. The only thing that i noticed is that the fog light indicator light to the left of the headlight switch is green to indicate them on. Bought a new turn signal/cruise control/ headlight steering column stick. Ill see what that does.

Fixed the problem. Not that anybody is even on here to notice but heres an update on what i found to be the issue. Changed out the relay for the fog lights figuring that the head lights tied into that relay. Still didnt fix the issue. So i bit the bullet and changed out the stalk on the steering wheel column. Bingooooo....fixed. So there you guys go...if you ever need to know wtf is going on you can PM me or just replace the stalk if you have similar issues.

Lol some tt forums are pretty dry. Thanks for at least documenting your findings anyway.

Well, I am glad you posted, as my headlights have been acting weird and then my turn signals started in with either just not working or blinking once, or if I am gentle and careful, sometimes working. I guess it's a new stalk for me as well!

Good work 705, good post. The electrical stuff on our tt's is a bit wonky, but they are old ride now.
The stalk switches are a known weak point, among others.
Thanks for posting, it may help others!

It's good information, easy to read, organized. Thank you and I hope I don't have to do this soon.
