Default How hard to remove/reinstall carpet?

In an earlier post I'd reported on a lot of moisture that has appeared on the floor on the driver's side only of my 2001 TT convertable. I am having the worst time getting all of the moisture out and am worried about possible damage to my floorboards if I don't get it completely dried. The plasticy carpet seems durable and easy to clean but doesn't wick the moisture to the surface well and it seems as if the pad underneath is pretty thick and a great repository for the moisture.

I'd like to just peel the carpet up on the driver's side so I can dry it from the underneath and inspect. Any idea how difficult this will be and how to get started? I need to do both the foot well and under the seat as both areas were damp.

Also, I didn't get many ideas on how the moisture could have appeared in the first place and would appreciate any experiences or ideas. Moisture was in entire driver's side area including whole area under seat (which is higher than the foot well) and very wet in the foot well. There was even moisture visible on the rail to which the seat mounts--but no moisture on the seats themselves.
