Default loud car

OK, so i am still a new guy and have a couple questions... The car is kinda loud, it seems as though there's an aftermarket exhaust but the guy i bought it from said it was stock. And there's a little bit of interior noise as well. I plan on putting a borla and downpipe on it, but not til spring maybe. Could my motor mounts be bad? The noise inside is from vibration, or maybe I already have tight mounts so that's y it's bad, what do stock ones look like v. aftermarket? Maybe I just have an exhaust leak or something...

One other noise, when I'm at low RPM's and turn left i hear a noise, sounds like pwr steering. I'll check fluid levels later, but is this common? Guy said he had the timing belt replaced by ecstuning at 70k miles, it had 81 now...

Thanks a bunch, i know im asking alot of questions i have so much i want to do to this car, I can easily see myself upgrading turbo and eventually bore size i love going fast!

well one what are you comparing the loudness too? it's louder then a stock civic but not like mustang loud. unless you have a exhaust leak. also the only way we can tell you anything about the mounts is prob if you take a pic. i don't think anyone can really discribe the mounts. Like mine you can tell they are aftermarket cus they are ingraved and have red in them. lol. and the steering i don't know?? i haven't heard anythin

180 or 225?

the 225 exhaust tone is a bit louder than the 180's... stock.

as for the steering noise, if it's a clunky type of noise, try replacing your strut bushings/bearings aka your strut mounts. if it's a squeaky noise, try your FSB or FSB bushings

180, i previously had a 98 corvette stock and it's louder inside the tt than the vette. The camaro with the borla was louder than this tt, but it's louder than I think it should be. I guess I'll look around for the mounts when I get home and see what they look like.

Steering thing sounds like power steering when you turn the wheel all the way and it drops the rpms just a bit (did it in my vette), except it does it without pegging the wheel all the way, and only at low rpms. I cruise around at ~2000rpms and it does it around 1000-1700

your power steering pump could be starting to take a ****. Do a visual to make sure it's not low/leaking, then check the condition of the fluid. Burnt smell of fluid or debris could lead to pump issues.

i don't have any leaks, other than a leaky window washer fluid resevoir. But it may be low or something crazy going on. I plan on checking it today.

Oh, you mean the power steering whine? I only have noticed that one with my car, and my fluid was low... I drove it really hard and it started whining. Topped it off and its good to go. My brother in law has a new S4 that has that whine constantly. I just rev up the 4.2 with the miltek exhaust and very quickly get over it

Oh, as for the exhaust. No, it shouldnt be loud at all inside the car. When I had my 180 stock I couldnt hear it at all inside. I did notice it was a loud vibration when my borla exhaust tac weld broke, right at the center cross member, and the pipe was rubbing the bottom of my car when I accelerated.. and it left a small hole in the pipe so I could hear a leak. That could be the problem with yours. Look under the rear of the car and see if the exhaust is stock. If it is, the muffler atleast, will look like a completely round, unnecessarily big and heavy drum. Basically it will look like ****.

Hope this helps.

im pretty sure it's stock, the guy before said it was. I plan on doing a cat back, as well as manifold and downpipe if/when i go bigger turbo, but that last part won't be for a while.

My goal is around 250-270whp. But with winter coming up I'd rather wait. I can't wait to party in the snow with AWD. From what I hear I have to get the Haldex blue to have real fun... Next summer with be a busy one!
