So im away on business, but my friend picked up my car from the dealership after having the transmission replaced (you may remember my thread where i was crying and complaining as i have only had the car for under 1000 miles).

Well he said the gear change from 1-3 was really jerky and stiff, but fine in the other gears. Is this normal for a new tranny? Does it have to be broken in and stuff??

is this a new tranny or a rebuilt one? If its rebuilt, they could of overlooked the syncros and that could be a problem. Could also just be the new fluid in the tranny needing to get to temp, that is unless its always like this

 

they say its brand new, 6k worth of tranny! can i believe them? who knows!

 

I occasionally notice a jerky shift in those gears but it is not constant. I also had to have mine replaced after 40 something thousand miles. I was not happy haha I have come to live with the occasional jerkiness. If yours is a persistent thing then take it up with the dealership. good luck with your troubles

 

i suggest you wait until you drive it and not your friend, no offense to him of course, but you know the car a little better
