Default RE: Nope - not a thermostat problem

new info - just got home from a splendid week long vacation, found the replacement green top sensor in the mail and promptly installed it. Guess what.....acts just like the 1st green top sensor, which also shows the car temp very slowly if ever reaching normal operating temp.....as displayed on the dash temp gauge.

The black top sensor indicates the engine is operating cpmpletely normally (except it was throwing engine codes which is what prompted me to replace it). By normal, I mean operating temp is reached within a few minutes and the gauge stays there like it should, rock solid.

Question - does the green top require a system reset or calibration....like unhooking the batt and reconnecting in order to "learn" a new sensor?

the sensors dont need programing into the system regardless of colour ( they act automatic ) and the system adapts ( you probably just had a bad sensor ) the way to check is simple, the higher the temp = the lower the resistance ( multimeter required ) when is cold it should read 3k plus and when it reaches operating temp like 90deg it should read 200 ish

Improtant to note that this is two green tops in a row that show this behavior. The original black top shows normal engine operating behavior

one is a fan switch the other is the temp switch, if the temp sensor goes down the fan wont cut in and you have the overheating issue because the temp sensor sends the signal for the fan to cut in ( I know its complicated **** ) but that's new cars today ( there is also a resistor on the fan system ) and thats another day issue

No - the green top I refer to is the recommended replacement for the often faulty blacktop....they are ot two different sensors

temp sensor sends a signal to the fan switch so they are linked
