Question Oil Consumption

TT owners,

I'm interested in learning if your TT's oil consumption is high per mileage driven.

My oil light has illumated twice since February and this seems a bit much to me.

Also:

What would cause a car to use so much oil?

Any input is apprecated
Mr. J

Most likely not consumption but a leak. Look at the drivers side of the engine for oil grime to spot the leak. There is a half moon gasket that is known to leak in large amounts.

I had the same problem. Not too long ago I did an oil change and within 3 weeks my engine light went on. I put the car up on a lift and noticed traces of oil near the alternator. Then I checked the dip stick and it was bone dry. I even asked a mechanic that was there at the time and he verified that I may have a leak. Long story short, I went back to the Audi dealership and they said that I didn't have an oil leak and in fact I was 1 qt over the limit. WTH? With that, I drained the oil again and put in 4.5 qts and now have to wait a week. Is this just a sensor issue or burning oil too fast. By the way I used 5w-40 and was recommended to use 10w-40.

I thought my a4 was burning oil, (1qt every 2 1/2 weeks), turns out the housing for the oil filter was leaking at the gasket where it mates with the engine block. Funny thing was the car never leaked oil on the driveway. Changed it along with the o-ring for the oil filter cooler housing and all was okay.

In addition to what everyone said, you might be losing your turbo seals...
