We have the same problem with my car. Good thing that you open up that situation. Hope that there someone knows about it and we can help us. I read some auto topics like Programming my car to get some idea about car repairs and car care.

Welcome to the world of audi, you will have mechanical problems. My gas gauge reads a half tank when it is empty. I was told to change out the whole cluster, costs around 1000.

First thing I would do is to check the battery terminals. Make sure they aren't loose.
If you decide to disconnect the battery terminals and reconnect them, please be sure to have your radio code first.
When the battery is completly disconnected the radio goes into SAFE mode, and requires the code to unlock it.
It's a security thing...
You can find the radio code in the radio manual that should have been provided with the car.

I haven't heard of a faulty gauge cluster causing this type of problem, but anything is possible!

Could bebegining issues ofthe alternator or batterystarting to go out. I would have both checked.
