you have a new car... say 02+? I have seen others same the same thing. Not sure when but some newer cars it wont go into safe. My 2000 if disconnected at all will go right into safe.

^hmm nope. 01 180TTQ. I was kinda SOL about the radio goin into SAFE (don't have the radio code anywhere 
) when i was changing my batt, but priorities first. I was expecting SAFE when i turned on the engine... but alas, it was the sweet sound of music.
