Default too Lean!!

What does it mean if my car is running lean?
That's what the dealer told me when I was in last week to check the CEL. Since they were too busy, they said i have to reschedule. So I drop off the car, and since there is no CEL anymore, now they said there's nothing wrong with the car.

If the car is running lean, what should they check for?

Thx,

Or oxygen sensors. Most likely he has a sensor that is on the way out. It will most likely show up again.

Jestnomen, you're correct.

The CEL been on and off.

Filled the car up and after maybe 20miles....the CEL came on. Then just about 1/2 tank, CEL went off......drove the car for rest of the tank nothing happened. Then when I fill the car again, same thing happened CEL is on.........again just about 1/2 tank cel went off.

So, i took it in the dealer they check the car w/o the CEL and said the car was running lean. But since they were to busy that day to work on my car, i had to go back in 3 days. So 3 days later took my car in, now they said there is no CEL and couldn't find any problem with the car.

I didn't pick up the car yet.....I told them they originally told me the car was running lean. Hope they can find the problem.
