Default tt exhaust question..

hey y'all. i know this is a far reach, but im asking anyone to please help me anyway.. i have a 180 hp 2001 tt quattro and i'm average when it comes to knowledge of mods and mechanics. i'm not really into modding the car too much anyway because i spent alot on the car and feel it is designed in the way that it is for a reason. i'm a sound guy and i would like to acheive a sportier sound with the exhaust, more like a quick rev, and i quote "something like a ferrari" type of sound.. along those lines (that's why i said "far reach" haha) i know there are only 4 cylinders so to acheive that sound entirely would be almost impossible, but id like to give it that higher quick sound, of a fast v8 or something. not like a riced out eclipse or civic (no offense), and definitely not the sound of a throaty v8 truck) none of those loud obnoxious sounds. an expensive, sportier sound if any of taht makes sense? if anybody has any tips or knowledge on where i should start i would really really appreciate anything anybody has to offer. adding more HP is not a concern of mine, just the sound. thanks!

ferrari's sound the way they do because they are small displacement v8's (mostly), a much different type of motor than a 1.8t. if you want a quicker rev, get a light flywheel. Reduce the mass that is spinning on the crank and the motor will rev up and down faster. Other than that, i've always liked remus mufflers, they have a very unique sound. just search for sound clips of different mufflers, there are plenty out there for the tt.

But only get a lightened flywheel at your own risk. The flywheel on the TT is a duel mass flywheel, designed to absorb alot of vibration that would otherwise go back and forth thru the driveline. Replacing it with a lightened one piece will make it rev faster, but the extra vibration may eventually do damage to your car.

The other reason ferrari's sound they way they do is the short exhaust, try moving your engine back under the hatch, and let us know if that does it for you ;P

The only other tip I can offer you is about muffler placement. The more pipe between the tip of the exhaust, and the outlet of your muffler there is, the deeper the tone. Move the muffler way out to the end (like those fart can exhausts the ricers use) and you get a higher, raspy tone. A total guess for the sound I think you want, would be something with a similar placement to the stock muffler, but delete the resonator that comes before it (between the cat and the muffler). It is somewhat trial and error though, which alot of people don't have the luxury of when they put together a pipe.

Ferrari's rear box is special and easy to make ( no baffles just plates set at 10mm apart staggered )
