Default TT is a lemon

I have a 2001 TT 225 coupe. I am starting to hate this car. Noise #1 When I accelerate fast, I hear a popping noise, towards the front. I can feel it in my feet. This noise is very disconcerning. Noise #2. When I shift into a different gear, mainly 3 and 4, I hear a noise that resembles pringles can being opened again and again (best description I can think of). Noise #3. I hear a very loud horn like noise, vibratory; the back right tire. It sounds like something is slipping or getting stuck. Noise #4 A fluttering noise, just under the dash. I thought it was an electrical arching noise, but it's vibrational also. All these noises are related to acceleration, and I think torque. I haven't taken it to the audi dealership. Am guessing It'll need a totall overhaul for around 4,000 dollars. I just bought this damn car (74,000 miles). I know it's been in an accident, the headlamp assemblies are new, as is the front bumper. This was a reputable dealer, and I want to fix him.

Did you buy it with a warrantee? If you did I'd schedule an appointment asap!
Good luck with it, and have faith TT's are fun!

Noise 1 sounds like cv joint in axle, is it louder when turning? Noise 2 is probably worn synchros in tranny. Try shifting slower or double clutching (ex. take out of 2nd and into neutral, release clutch pedal, press clutch again and shift to 3rd) and see if the noise is still there, or quieter. You may need to top off the tranny fluid, or flush it and switch to redline MT-90. 3 sounds like wheel bearing. Jack that wheel up and shake the wheel back and forth and see if it moves at all. Also check your brake pads on that side. These are all just guesses, as its impossible to diagnose something online, but they are all common problems for a car with those miles (tranny synchros all depend on how the previous owner treated the car). Good luck man, TT's are fun cars when they are running well.

if you didn't get a warrantee knowing its been in a crash that would suck, you should trade it in for another one that has not been in an accident

No warranty. I guess the last guy traded it in for a newer one (his warranty ran out on the one I got). 2000TT the soft shifting and double shifting eliminates the noise. That pringles noise came on over night, so that's why I was curious about it. THe loud popping noise- I found the engine mount is bad underneath, under heavy acceleration it was metal on metal. I'm getting that replaced. I'm going outside to try and shake the wheel to see about the bearing. Weird thing is, the popping noise seemed to start after I used octane booster. My mechanic friend shouldn't cause that- he said it was probably related to the way I was driving it? Thanks for the input.

MT 90 Fluid

Try replacing the tranny fluid with MT 90, its thicker so it will help reduce the shifting grinds. It worked wonders on my 2nd gear grind on the FWD 5 speed tranny. You'll probably need a special tool to release the drain bolt though, so check into that before ordering the fluid.

when i get home i'll post the link for the tranny fluid change. (in fact search this fourm for my post on the tranny fluid change) its very easy. i did it and can help with any questions you have. Audi says its lifetime fluid but thats so they can get money out of you for big repairs. after i changed my fluid and cleaned out the magnetic drain plug my tranny shifts better and doesnt grind at all!!! you should see all the metal shavings in the magnetic drain plug. its scary!!
