No, just more than likely put you into limp mode. It is common for the MAF to fail on these cars. Try unplugging the MAF and driving around, the ECU will use the default map and ignore input from the non functioning MAF. If that seems to help, try cleaning the MAF with a Mass Air Sensor cleaner or a non-residue electrical cleaner. Once you've done that, have the CEL cleared and see if it comes back. If the same code returns it's more than likely that you'll need a new MAF.

When my MAF was bad my car was SOOOOOO slow.

Once you get it fixed you'll be more than fine.

MAF will dramatically change your driving experience.

It is connected to the engine side of your airbox. A large rubber hose connects it to your turbo inlet. It gets plugged in from the firewall side.

I unplugged the MAF and took it for a spin. Two things happened:

1. The traction control light popped on when I started the car and remained lit.

2. No noticeable difference in the driving. Wouldn't I have to clear the fault code to get the car out of limp mode also to feel a difference?

1. It can happen when the ECU no longer receives a MAF signal.

2. Limp mode clears when you restart the engine. You may have a vacuum or boost leak in there somewhere. Check all the hoses and/or get a pressure test done.

Is it possible for me to check the hoses myself and how? Is there a diagram showing which hoses I need to check?

I appreciate everyones help already. I'm trying to avoid taking to a shop until I get my insurance quote and can get the headlight and bumper fixed.

Is there anyway I can clear the CEL without a vag-com or going to a shop?
