2.8 12V - spark plug
Car is running rough (like on 5 cyl).
Don't dare to drive.
First could get VAGcom engine module, turns out blown fuse.
With fuse in and VAGcom engine module reading, no error codes.
Measurement blocks for knock voltage 1-6 show 0.00-0.40 Volt.
Timing for cyl 1-6 show 'timing pulled due to knock' or so.
Does it take a certain time for codes to shop up? Car is definately NOT running well, terrible idle, rough 5 cyl running (certainly less pronounced with higher rpm).
Spark plugs have at least 50k (my miles) on it, not sure what previous owner put on. They were very light, almost white. Style: those with 4 electrodes.
As a tune up/elimination, I want to first put new plugs in. Nothing fancy.
a) copper or platinum (could it be that I read somewhere that the 12V actually runs better on copper?)
b) singe or double or quad?
c) brand?
I am not going to pay $5 for a plug, so 'basic good' choice suggestions, please. Or even 'any copper will work'.
If no codes show up, what measuring blocks should I read to narrow down the problem?
I have sister car (2.8 12V auto instead of manual, also 1996) standing by for 'swapping'. I was thinking spark plug wires first, injectors second.

try swapping the Ignition control Module, also sounds like your running the wrong plugs, i haven't heard of a quad plug.
use something like NGK or Bosh most others arn't even equal. I know on turbo cars they almost require copper, but on the 2.8 i have only seen iridium or the platinums used. Things cost money and i wouldnt worry about the few extra dollars of a spark plug.
The stock are double but it doesnt matter considering it can only fire to one point at once, it just gives it more options, singles never have a problem.

Forgot to mention: we did swap the ICM, no change. The backside gets pretty hot! Stock airbox has cooling plate to mount to, aftermarket intake not.
Plugs: the 12V it seems is not a very 'touchy' engine as far as plugs are concerned, so pretty much any will do?
4 tips or quads were in, and most stores have them.
What is the OEM brand (Bosch?), type (platinum?), form (2 tips?) and part number?
