Exclamation 2.8 overheating

Good afternoon! I own a 2000 audi a4 with the 2.8 v6. I recently purchased the car and it was leaking some coolant from the heater hose connections that connect to the hard coolant lines. One of them was cracked on the other i replaced the o-ring. After i put everything back together i purged the coolant system of any air bubbles. Sadly once i turned it on and let it idle for a couple of minutes, it began to overheat. It slowly went over the halfway mark and kept climbing. At that point i turned it off and went inside to look through the forums for possible answers. I also thought there was an air bubble not letting the water cycle through but after bleeding many times i ruled that out. One thing i did note was once it began going past the halfway mark the expansion canister released coolant through the bottom expansion tank . Is that something that happens in response to it overheating? I also noticed that the electric fan would not come on at all. Even when i turned the ac on. The fan clutch was spinning.
My question is if the second electric fan suppose to come on or is it only when the ac is turned on ? Or am i just missing something that is causing the car to overheat. Any advice will be greatly appreciated!!!!

Could have a big air bubble trapped in the system still. Are you getting pressure in your hoses? Does anything change when you hold the accelerator at around 2K RPMs with the heat on full blast through the vents?

Typically you want the heat on while you bleed. Check your heater core hoses one should be cold and one should be hot. Also are you getting any pressure in your radiator hoses?
