Default 97 Audi A4 Not Starting?

Hello, Im new to the Audi Forums and just bought a 97 A4 1.8T FWD. It was sitting on a property but looked to be in good condition so I contacted the owner and bought it for $600. The car doesnt start, but all the dash lights illuminate and the windows work. Car doesn't turn over. Theres a single click coming from the engine when I turn the key forward. Do I have a bad starter? Starter relay? Any help would be appreciated!

How much voltage does the battery have? It take quite a lot more juice to power up a starter then it does a bulb.

About 13V. The previous owner claims that it starts once in a while, intermittently.

If it is a auto transmission try & start it in neutral with your foot on the brake.
If not carefully try to exert a little extra force on the key when trying to crank it over. You could have a bad ignition switch.

I tried starting it in neutral, still no start. A bad ignition switch? Wasnt there a recall on this model and year for something related to the ignition?

I will try giving it a jump in the morning to see if I can get the starter to work. I will check the battery as well. Can the fuel pump really be the issue even if the engine isnt turning over? I thought you dont check for fuel and spark unless the engine turns over but doesnt start. If I stated my problem incorrectly, my apologies. My 1.8T engine is not turning over or starting.

Just in case other A4 owners are following this thread or come across it looking for help, I replaced the Transmission Range Sensor, aka Neutral Safety Switch, and the car started right up and runs great.
