98 A4 just quit, what to check?

It is not running now. it cranks but nothing else. I should have an answer later today. Fingers are crossed.

20k on the belt, Damn! Could a bad pulley or other part cause the belt to break, techs?

Was the tensioner replaced with the timing belt?

I would guess it was, but it looks as it that is the cause. I talked to the mechanic today and he said the belt is loose, but still turns the cam. No compression so the valves are toast. On a positive note, the guy who looked it isn't charging me anything for what he has already done. I am going to give him something when I pick it up. He is storing the car for over 2 weeks. I am going to get the car on Feb 23rd (700 miles one way). I hope to have it runnin in a couple of weeks after that. I'm just glad it didn't happen last December when she was on her way here for Christmas. She was stranded in Lusk, Wy in a snow storm.
