The EGR problem is not unique to the 12v.

I have the 30v and am experiencing that very problem.

The thermostat works like all thermostats, no matter what car. But the EGR passage was put in an unfortunate location, right where crankcase oil vapor can run in and turn to hard carbon. I've got to clean that out every two years for the smog check. But it isn't all that bad of a job- the EGR valve and pipe come out as one unit, just two screws at the manifold, and a coupling nut on the exhaust manifold. The throttle body is just four screws, electrical connector, and throttle cable. A piece of stranded wire cable from the hardware store, a reversible drill, and a shop vac is about all you really need to get the passage cleared.

Hmm. Would that possibly throw an Evap code? I haven't hooked it up in awhile but last time I did, it was throwing an Evap code to make the cel come on.

Nope, the evap system is another thing altogether. Often the N80 carbon canister purge valve isn't working correctly. The computer tells the purge valve to open under programmed conditions, and expects to see the O2 sensors report a richer mixture, as gas vapors are drawn from the canister. Other things that can cause evap codes are leaks, faulty gas caps, and so forth.
