I'm having a problem every morning whe I try to start my a4 b5 1996 1.8 non turbo 20v. It cranks but doesnt start. After 5-6 cranks it starts...after that it starts after one crank when its hot. I have replaced: temperature sensor sender (2, one black and one blue sensor on a flange next to the firewall, replaced with same part number), crankshaft position sensor (this one was broken in the part that goes into the engine), maf (boutgh a chinese one on ebay, had to use old one again because with the chinese it did horrible mpg, but vag doesnt give any codes for either) , fuel filter, spark plugs, coil pack, checked fuel pump (used manometer) left injectors outside to check if they were leaking... nothing. My mechanic says its a maf problem, I have tried to start it with disconnected maf but same thing, I would really apreciate if someone knows how to fix this. Thanks

 

I had a similar issue and it was the fuel pump. It would take a few times to start as it would slowly pump the fuel. Then would start fine any time after because fuel was already in the line but let it sit for more than 8hrs and hard to start again. I'm not saying that's your exact problem but a possible one.

Edit: just read and say you checked your pump. try scanning for codes see if anything out of the norm pops up

Im really getting tired of this now, sometimes it starts at the firts crank , most of the time I have to be 10 min cranking till it starts, my mechanic told me to buy the maf but its really expensive, I would really appreaciate if someone has a clue of whats going on.
