Default ABS problem! help?

i was just driving normally this time, lol, and stopping nice and slow when my abs started, at first i thought i was just thinking it up, but then now on every gentle stop it turns on right before i come to a complete stop.

no lights are on the dash about abs just it kicks in randomly when im about to stop

anyone have/had a similar problem? what should i do, any advice?

thanks.

I have/had the same issue...your ABS light won't come on, but you WILL have a code, basically, I'm assuming you are going under 20mph WHEN this happens correct?

What's happening is, one tire is telling the computer that it's not matching up to the same speed as the others during slow speeds....it could be a bad tooth on the ABS sensor ring on the axle, could also be a bad ABS sensor itself, etc...figuring out which one it is, could be a big pain in the a.....

ahhhhh crap.... i heard the sensors can be pretty expensive but then again i could get lucky by cleaning the sensor from rust? or something like that? DAMN IT!

It may not be a sensor, my buddy replaced all 4 sensors, had his abs module rebuilt, and is still having this issue. I told him to inspect the rings on the axle but of course he never listens to me.

you can get aftermarket sensors on ebay, I've tried them and they work pretty good. I found my problem by accident. I had a rear sensor ABS light and code on the right rear...I had replaced the left rear axle earlier....but NOT the right rear.....turns out, the right rear sensor ring on the axle iteself was MORE WORN than the NEW one, duh, of course, so that caused the speed discrepancy....

If you have VAG-COM you can find out exactly which wheel is the problem. All you have to do is access the ABS module, and open up the dialog for Measuring Blocks (I think it's called). From there you can have it display ABS speed sensing for each wheel while you're driving.
