Question alternative to chipping Q's

I was considering using an MBC to turn up the boost on my 2001. My first question is will the stock timing be ok if i do this? what exactly does putting the diode on the map sensor do? and last is just for future reference, i am planning on going BT by the end of the year, i read the FAQ on upgrading the stock turbo and with regards to the tunning it says that i will need a maf from an mk4, well since my car uses a MAP sensor, do i replace the MAP with a maf or how does that work? sorry im kinda new to this.

you can crank your boost, but eventually(probably fairly quickly) your turbo will go bye bye

using a diode tricks the map somehow and allows you to up the boost safely... read the diode mode deal

if you are going bt in the near future, do the diode to save some cash, then go bt... since you are an 01 you can get a mafless tune which will run off your map sensor, or if you do a maf'ed tune you just take the sensor out of your stock housing and put it in the new one, you don't need to replace your map

I'd just hold off on anything until you go bt. Especially if that is going to be within the next 3 months, as you say. I woulnd't want to go hacking into the map wiring harness for a 3 month boost fix. It'll be woth the wait.
