Default Another timing belt!

Ok so i am doing my timing belt/ waterpump replacement on my car cause i found my waterpump was leaking. I found the kit on baum sports. The kit has everything but the time belt tensioner.... my question is should i purchase this seperate? Or do they not go bad as often on the 12v v6's. Again i dont want to purchase anything i am not in need of. The way it seems is it is common for you to replace it on the 1.8t..... Also what specialty tools would i need to do the job? i heard the cam holder is not necessary. But what about the crank holder pin? Is there anything else needed besides the basic handtools? Thank you very much

Usually its the tensioner that goes and not the belt, you're definitely gonna wanna replace it. Why do you say "another" timing belt? Try the kit on Blauparts, comes with the tensioner and is reasonably priced

EDIT: Just re-read your original post, sorry i missed the last question. You don't need to BUY the cam alignment tool, but i'd definitely suggest making one if you have the means.

I would also suggest replacing the tensioner while you are "in there". Why tempt fate?

Cam locking bar is absolutely not necessary unless you are going to do seals too. Just make sure you mark EVERYTHING on the cam and crank sprockets after you get the motor set TDC and before you start removing the timing belt/components. If anything moves it will then be super obvious and real easy to rotate individual sprockets back EXACTLY where they belong.

Also when you say tensioner are you meaning the tensioner pulleys? or about the hydraulic tensioner. Because i dont see the hydraulic one in the kit on blausports. but if your talking about the tensioner pulleys i was going to for sure replace those..... just dont know about the hydraulic tensioner

Replace everything that relates to tension. Mark the belt to the sprocket to the engine.
