Default Anyway to quiet down a transmission whine?

My first gear has a chipped tooth, pretty common on these cars from what I hear. I've gotten used to the whine it makes since I'm barely in first obviously. But is there anyway to quiet it down? ECS has this stuff: http://www.ecstuning.com/Audi-B5_A4-..._12v/ES261605/ I didn't know if that would really help or not.

They also have this: http://www.ecstuning.com/Audi-B5_A4-...luid/ES261389/

i think that the stuff that you add to the transmission oil is to stop it from shifting bad, not from making bad noises.

It says its used to reduce or eliminate transmission noise but I know next to nothing about transmissions

For Christmas I got the stuff in your first link, and intend to use some when I change the transmission fluid this Sunday. My transmission has somewhat of a whine in 2nd though, not first.

I don't think any additive is going to be very effective in quieting a sound made by a gear with metal chipped away from it.

Do you have any idea how much that would cost?

OP, I drove mine like that for as long as I owned it, I eventually just started tuning the noise out in my head. Not much you're gonna be able to do about it short of replacing/rebuilding the trans

so a chipped gear at First / second its fine to drive . Mine has a whine also but I am loath to change the whole gear which cost a fortune and a second hand one may be worse ! can I keep driving teh car with no major concerns ? Grateful for any helpful comments

Apart from rebuilding the trans, which as you mentioned will cost a fortune, there's nothing you can do but drive it that way. As I said a few posts up, I drove my first A4 like that for years and it was fine.
