Good day I need help my audi A4 2.6 V6 1997 won't start, I've just replaced the starter with a brand new starter, brand new battery so I tried starting but car won't even crank so I did diacnostics the engine code says "immobilizer blocking engine from starting" then when entering the immobilizer it says "key signal weak".... Took the key to a locksmin to test he said there is nothing wrong with the key..... Please advice as to what to do..... I've even tried starting straight from the starter and still won't turn over..... What could be the reason the key light on the dash is not flashing as well....... I really need good advice on what it might be or what next to do

John, I think that you are about the last of the early B5 A4 people. Incidentally, I picked up an A5 Sportback Friday night, first new car that I've personally owned. My wife on the other hand has had a new Honda Civic and Passat. This continues my hangup on Audis; two early 5000s, one a turbo, then a later CS5000 turbo, my trusty '96 A4, my current B6 3.0, wife's Q5, and now the A5. Earlier in my life it was Datsuns (3) and Ford Explorers (2). One Toyota pickup and an Accord were in the mix too.
Check your fuses. North American B5’s did not come with an immobilizer so we don’t ever run into that problem but from what I understand, the immobilizer will allow you to start the car but will die after a second.
Are you getting a click when you turn the key? If you are not getting a click, your solenoid on your starter is not engaging. If it is a manual, can you push start it and keep it running? This will eliminate the immobilizer as the culprit if it stays running. If it stays running, I’m thinking you have a dead starter out of the box since it won’t turn over when you try and start it directly off the battery.
