Greetings Forumites!

Thanks for reading my post

I'm hoping that someone might have come across this problem before, unfortunately this problem is intermittent and whenever having the dealer look at it the problem is cleared again, so it's driving me right batty

Intermittently, when starting her up, she'll just swing and swing and swing and not pick up. I know it's bad, but if i keep her swinging for about 15-20 seconds you'll hear she is starting to take and then she will, followed by some brown smoke out the exhaust (this is the only time she smokes) , generally when this occurs, the next couple of mins will result in her revving abnormally high when idling (between 2500-3500rpm), and then a few mins later back to normal.

I wont see this problem again for anything from a week to a month.

Thinking about it though, i've never had this issue from cold, it's always between trips.

So it's hard for me to show it to the dealer when there is no problem at that point in time, so i'm hoping someone else has seen this behaviour before.

Regards

Ronald

EDIT: Someone at work mentioned it might be a faulty crankshaft sensor, but i dont know much about that

probably not a crank position sensor. we need more information about the car. year, engine, transmission, etc. you said 2.0, meaning this is a built engine? or a 2.0 non turbo from across the pond maybe?

Thanks for the response.

Sure, it's a 2002 model B5, 2.0 non turbo, manual gearbox, South African version (so way way across the pond I reckon )
