I bet you I could get my mom's friend to do it. His rebuilds are AMAZING, but he's slow as hell. It took like 3 weeks for our truck to get done. The price was a steal though. 2 grand for tranny and transfer case.

I'm sure Summit transmission in Fort Wayne, Indiana would. Whats so special its just another auto trans w/ the option of shifting it w/ your finger. If they can rebuild an auto trans they can do this one. I can see if it was a DSG or CVT tranny but its not... Now most transmission shops like to use there stock and give you one they have rebuilt in the past and had sitting on the shelf but when our Subaru SVX had to go they obviously didn't have a transmission for such a rare car so they did the rebuild.

Getting new parts (tq converter, valve body, clutch packs, seals, pump, etc.) to rebuild an old ZF tranny costs way more than you think. It's way cheaper to find a used tranny with decent miles. A tech at the dealer told me the one place they knew of that does it (regularly) would charge $5k-$8k for a true tip rebuild. I'm sure Summit and a lot of other places could rebuild it, but I'm also sure it will cost an *** load to do it and not make financial sense when you are dealing with a ~10+ year old car. ZF is the supplier for Porsche, Bently, and a few others for transmissions. You can imagine the cost for parts.

the tip in my car was rebuilt in Long Beach, CA at 171k.
Transmission Rebuild: $1570
Torque Converter Rebuild:$185
Trans oil:$100
Labor: $1130

I paid $4200 for the car with 177k on it.

A little over 3k that sounds realistic to me.

when my tranny went out they said it would be a little more than 3k so that sounds right to me too

if you dont have the time to do it yourself just find a used one take it to a shop and just have them do the labor. it will probly be around $500 for them to do it and i bet you could find a good used tranny from a junk yard for no more than 1k. i got a manual with 16k miles for $700 from a junk yard.
