B5 running cold
Hey all
I already know my thermostat is open all the tims, my car is constantly running between 140.F and 158.F maxed. It will stay at 140.-145.F while driving and after i shut it off for 10 minutes it only goes to 158.F or so.
I am wondering if it being that cold if it will rob me from the little Horsepower that we have as it is with the 1.8T. Anything else i should keep an eye on?
Thanks

Generally when an engine runs cooler it will inject more fuel, thus putting out less power. In most cases hotter engines also produce more power even without factoring in air-to-fuel ratios.
So yes, you should have your thermostat replaced. The hardest part for me was getting the new o-ring to line up properly between the thermostat housing and the thermostat. And also, you could re-use your coolant if you initially drain it into a clean container.

If it looks okay then I see no reason not to. Just as recently as 2 weeks ago I reused about 1 gallon of coolant (mixed 50-50) drained from the radiator so that I could remove the turbo coolant line from the engine block.
