Default Boost gauge tutorial

Coest effective, nice looking boost gauge Made this today while installing mine. Here is the DIY:

I have one question though, when im driving nice and slow, going around 30-40mph my gauge shows 0 or 1 psi. when i step on the gas though it spikes up to 10 and stays that way untill i slow slow down or release the gas. Is this how its supposed to work? The gauge is mechanical by the way.

one thing is i wouldnt run the wires like you did. if you want them fused, run them behind the fuse pannel and connect them the right way to one of the unused fuse holders and put a 10 or 15a fuse on it. if you dont care about a fuse (i didnt) connect them to the 75x main buss under the dash. other then that it looks pretty good.

if your car is a manual, when you are cruising in gear your gauge should show -20ish in/hg when you take your foot off the gas. if your gauge doesnt show lower then 0 then it wont move until you push on the pedal hard enough to make your turbo spool up. if you have an auto it might not work that way. i dont know though.

When I did a quick install to test for leaks, I noticed that the line I tapped (at the front of the IM closest to the front of the car) is only producing vacuum. So when the gauge is hooked up, I'm not showing boost (I bought one with boost only, so not seeing vacuum either). Is there a better place to install?

nope. that is the place to install the vacuum line.
either you did something wrong, or have a leak in your line to your gauge, or you are making no boost.

Turns out it just wasn't making boost while sitting still. Not sure why, but I know I should be making ~18 psi. Right now it topped out at 5 psi, which is lower than stock. So I have to find that pesky leak.

Hmmm this sounds oddly close to the problem i'm having with my boost, only i'm getting like 2 PSI when i mash the peddle and a butt load of vacuum at idle. How do i check for the leak?

Oh and BTW sweet gauge fitting, looks really nice. This maybe my solution to my lake of gauge pod problem.

Diring idle, the vacuum should be between 20-23. You wont be getting much boot while idling even if you press the pedal down hard. Press the pedal down like that on the road while driving and you'll see the arrow quickly jump to 10psi, if you're stock.

um yeah. you arent supposed to boost at idle. the engine needs to be under load and above idle to start building much boost.
do a pressure test now that you have a gauge and fix any leaks you find.

Then if you're like me you still only boost stock pressure and start looking into a
GIAC chip or something that works since my speedtuning one doesnt...

MrPibb: go to audidiy and look in there for how to do a boost leak test.
you need an air compressor or an air tank that you can fill up at a gas station to do it correctly.
