Brake fluid
Can one use Dot 3 brake fluid on a 01 A4 B5? Or is there another proprietary fluid that Audi uses for its brake system?
And if one uses Dot 3,will it harm the brake system, opposed to Dot 4?

Well,it wasn't used on purpose,i happen to have a bottle of Dot 3 laying around and I didn't recall if a B5 uses Dot 3 or Dot 4 so I told my mechanic to flush the fluid and put in the fresh Dot 3,will it harm the brake system?
Should I have him flush it again and have him put in the Dot 4? Or I can just keep in the Dot 3 and use Dot 4 next flush?

Dot 3 and 4 are compatible, so there wont be any damage to the brake system. As was mentioned previously Dot 4 has a higher boiling point than 3. As it is with the fresh fluid in it now, the boiling point will be much better than the old fluid removed so long as the new fluid came from a sealed container. Brake fluid readily absorbs water, which is what lowers the boiling point. You should never used brake fluid from an open container. Unless you plan to track the car, just leave it in and flush it with Dot 4 next time.
