Angry Car violently shaking at idle and at speed

Hey all,
I was driving home from the gym today and out of no where my car started to idle weird and the whole car was shaking. When i drove off, the shake got worse and worse and then the check engine light started to flash on and off and i did not have normal power. Was wondering if anyone could give me an idea of what it might be. 99 a4 30v with 84k miles.
Thanks in advance

a check engine light blinking means a pretty bad misfire. and if it made your car shake, its more than likely multiple cylinders. i had a 2.8 before my 1.8, and mine started doing this one day on the highway. the fix? since you have a 2.8, plugs/wires. have a shop scan it, tell you which cylinder/cylinders are misfiring. its more than likely your wires. save some money, do it yourself. its 200$ at a non-dealership to have done. 80 if you do it yourself

no, 2.8s dont have coils, they have coil. only one that sends signals to all 6 plugs. its not likely, but possible
